Teen says: I Am Not the Boston Marathon Bomber
As usual its easy to get carried away when emotions run high. Yesterday we had brought you a collection of images that were circling the internet. Social Media had become a grand jury, and was out to point the finger at potential terrorists. In yesterdays article we warned everyone that there was no proof that these images were of the suspects. Today it seems that our gut must have been correct as the FBI released photos of the suspects.
“Being reported by ABC News, The teenage boy authorities once investigated as possibly being connected to the Boston Marathon bombing told ABC News today he was shocked to see his face pop up on television and all over social media.
Salah Barhoun, 17, said he went to the police yesterday to clear his name after he found himself tagged in pictures online. He had just gone to watch the race, he said, but soon after the explosions, he was singled out by internet sleuths as looking suspicious.”
We say good for him, for stepping up right away and clearing the air, and as much as we want to help, sometimes the internet detectives can do more harm than good.
I think this should be a reminder to us all, to stay vigilant, but don’t let events like this to take our humanity from us.
