They’re Getting Closer!

 CBC says A magnitude 6.3 earthquake has struck off the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake hit at 6:01 p.m. PT, 182 kilometres southwest of Port Hardy, B.C.

The quake was felt by residents in the towns of Ucluelet and Tofino, on the island’s west coast.There were reports of some shaking, about 30 seconds long and a report in Winter Harbour on the northern tip of Vancouver Island of some swaying for about 15 seconds.

There is no word yet on injuries or damage. A tsunami alert was not issued.A much more powerful 7.7 quake struck off the coast of Haida Gwaii on Oct. 27, a few hundred kilometres north of this evening’s tremor.

Meanwhile, A deadly earthquake off the Pacific coast of Guatemala today has killed at least 48 people in two provinces, collapsed buildings, spurred landslides and rattled cities as far away as San Salvador and Mexico City.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude-7.4 quake struck 28 miles southwest of Champerico, Guatemala, near the border with Mexico. The epicenter was 25 miles below the surface.

Map of fault lines and Ring of Fire The image at left shows past earthquake activity on the Ring of Fire. It’s like a huge bow being drawn back, increasing pressure in the center. …which happens to be from BC down through Washington, Oregon, and into California.

These latest Canadian ‘quakes and aftershocks may (just may) indicate that the pressure is reaching snapping point.
